Nextdoor’s Annual Treat Map is Back!

Nextdoor’s Annual Treat Map is Back!

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 1, 2024 — Nextdoor (NYSE: KIND), the essential neighborhood network, officially kicks off spooky season with the return of its annual Treat Map. For the 12th consecutive year, the Nextdoor Treat Map is the original, interactive guide to local festivities, as neighbors show and share their plans for this once-a-year celebration of neighborhood spirit.

Through October 31st, neighbors can drop a themed pin on the Treat Map for their home or local business, to indicate their plans to decorate or hand out candy for Halloween. To inspire others to get in on the fun, neighbors can add images and text to their pins to help inform visitors, from photos of frightfully festive decor, to their plans to give the ultimate Halloween handout: king-sized candy bars.

For families, the Treat Map is a helpful tool for charting their trick-or-treat route. With Halloween falling on a school night this year, parents can refer to the Treat Map to find nearby hotspots for trick-or-treating to ensure a fun and efficient evening for their families.

In a September 2024 survey of neighbors on Nextdoor, respondents shared their views on key Halloween-themed topics. The survey revealed:

  • Neighbors plan to spend $277 this year on Halloween supplies, with $76 going to candy;
  • Most neighbors expect to start their trick-or-treating between 6-7 pm;
  • On average, neighbors believe that 14 is the age that children should stop trick-or treating;
  • 85% of neighbors will ensure an adult is present while their children are trick-or-treating; and
  • 63% of neighbors will establish a route to ensure a safe trick-or-treating excursion.

“In exploring attitudes and opinions about trick-or-treating  with parents on Nextdoor, one point was clear: neighbors love Halloween,” said Jacob Chavis, Senior Manager of Customer Analytics & Insights. “Our results revealed that Halloween was favored over holidays including Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve, and Thanksgiving with parents on Nextdoor. With the return of the Treat Map, families can ensure they’re getting the most out of this beloved neighborhood tradition.”
