Nextdoor and U.S. Census Bureau partner to encourage neighborhood participation in the 2020 Census

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 15, 2020 – Today, Nextdoor announced a partnership with the United States Census Bureau to encourage participation and to drive awareness of the 2020 Census in neighborhoods around the country.

“Everything we do at Nextdoor is built around our belief in the power of the neighborhood and providing a platform that serves all individuals that make up our communities,” said Nextdoor CEO Sarah Friar. “We are thrilled to partner with the U.S. Census to build stronger communities everywhere.”

The U.S. Constitution mandates that a census of the population be conducted once every 10 years for the purpose of reapportioning seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Census data is also used to determine how federal funds are distributed back to states and local communities every year for services and infrastructure, including health care, jobs, schools, roads, and businesses.

The Census is much more than just a head count – it provides a full picture of the nation and helps inform where to locally build new schools, hospitals, and businesses. Partners play an important role in supporting the ability to receive a complete and accurate view, and Nextdoor is the only place where the U.S. Census Bureau can reach residents at the hyperlocal, neighborhood level.

Nextdoor is the neighborhood hub for trusted connections and the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services, and it is the only platform that enables public agencies to reach people at the neighborhood level.
